DJ Kid Corona - Morning Show Host
KXOL - Latino 96.3 FM
Los Angeles, CA
LATINO 96.3 LOS ANGELES, CA
I had the privilege and the honor of getting hired and working for one of the hottest Latin radio stations in the Country. After just a few short months of being on the air part-time, I was hired on as the new host of the Morning show, "The Morning Invasion". Usually, many disc jockeys (or Radio personalities as we call them in the biz) spend their entire careers trying to make it to major markets like Los Angeles, and only a small handful of people actually make it. I feel so blessed that I got the opportunity to finally yell from the top of my lungs.."I made it to Los Angeles!!!!!"
Working at Latino 96.3 was such a fun adventure as well as a great learning experience. I remember so many times having to jump on the freeway right after the show heading out to Palm Springs to fulfill my DJ entertainment obligations. Keep in mind, my normal wake up time was 4am. Imagine getting up that early, driving almost 2 hours to Palm Springs, then driving back to Los Angeles at 12 midnight and only getting three and half maybe four hours of sleep?.......whew! was I tired the next day. But once i jumped inside that studio and the energy kicked in, I was happy, excited and I knew i had a heck of an opportunity on my hands.
SPANISH OR ENGLISH
Often confused as a Spanish only station, Latino 96.3 is actually a Bilingual radio station that is geared towards English speaking Latinos. The format consists of Hip Hop/R&B and Reggeaton. In addition to the format, the Disc Jockeys and on air DJs (including myself) are also Bilingual.
KID CORONA or RYAN SEACREST?
This was a fun moment. We brought a Hollywood hypnotist (Kevin Stone) on the show originally to hypnotize some listeners as well as some staff members. Unfortunately, I played the brave guy and decided to take on the hypnotist myself. Moments later, I came back on the air and suddenly I became Ryan Seacrest....What! That's right. Beyond my comprehension, I was suddenly calling Latino 96.3 "102.7 KIIS FM" and calling myself Ryan Seacrest in the morning. Afterwards, I was in disbelief (no offense to Ryan, he's a great talent) I couldn't believe that I actually went on the air calling myself Ryan Seacrest and saying "102.7 KIIS FM" in front of almost a million Los Angeles Latino listeners....wow! Don't believe it? Here's the video
APRIL FOOLS DAY
Ahhh, now this was a heck of an adventure. My staff and I pulled one of the years best pranks. In fact, it was so good that we ended up making national news. We tricked our listening audience into believing that we were going to give away a fully paid trip to London, England with $1,000 in spending cash to anyone willing to tattoo their toddler. Of course as the set up, we already had our fake contestant the previous day. So, on April Fools day, we played the entire pre-recorded audio of us tattooing a toddler and the audience bought it!
Next thing you know, CPS was calling, the fire department and the cops showed up to the studios and I was asked to show my ID and prove that it was all a set up. Long story short, we proved to law enforcement that we were just pulling a prank. Later that night we interviewed by FOX and ABC 7. I had friends calling me as far out as Texas, Miami, Las Vegas and Palm Springs telling me that they saw the news cast. Man, what a way to kick things off in Los Angeles in less than a year.....it was awesome!! KID CORONA'S BIRTHDAY BASH
Wow, how can I forget this one. For my birthday, my parents and my favorite uncle flew in from Arizona and along with my cousins and hundreds of Latino listeners, together, we celebrated like it was 1999. The club we were at was off the hook! We had a great DJ performing (Dj Eddie One) and the night was amazing. Of course, the next day I felt like crap, but hey, my parents continued the party by taking me to the Saddle ranch on Sunset. You can see all the pics on myspace if you're really interested.
LATINO DJS
No doubt about it, our morning show certainly had some of the best DJs in Los Angeles. Our DJs varied throughout the week. Some mornings we had DJ Santa Rosa, DJ C-Mike and DJ Eddie One (DJ Eddie Uno) come in and just tear it up! They were so good on air that I had DJs in Palm Springs trying to submit demos so they could get on the air and be part of this great DJ experience....it was unreal!
CLOSING TIME
You've probably heard the saying.."All good things must come to an end" and that, they did. Earlier this year I resigned from my position as the morning show host. Although it was a very tough decision for me, I knew it was the right one at the time. People still ask me when I'm coming back and my answer will always be.."as soon as they let me come back".
During my time at Latino 96.3, I had the pleasure of meeting and developing friendships with many Hollywood celebrities as well as working with some very talented people. It's an experience I will never forget. I was grateful then and I'm grateful now to the management team who believed in me and gave me my first shot on L. A. radio. There's no doubt about it, Latino 96.3 is the hottest Latino radio station in Los Angeles.
