WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE HIRING A SAN DIEGO DJ
There are many options when it comes to hiring a DJ. Things you should know: First, be weary of DJs who are willing to lower their rates right off the bat. That usually means they're either desperate for gigs, or they don't have a whole lot of experience. A great DJ knows his and/or her self worth.
Second, have you heard the term "You get what you pay for?" Well, that term is usually true, especially in this business. Just because the price sounds good, that doesn't mean you're getting the goods. Anyone can be a DJ, but not everyone can acquire the experience and knowledge to be a GREAT DJ!
Third, make sure the DJ is insured and if possible incorporated. It simply means that this DJ has taken extra steps to building his/her company with integrity and reputation in mind. Make sure they provide a certificate of insurance and a legitimate contract. And finally, make sure they are capable of providing a replacement or a "back up" DJ in case something should happen to them.
DJ EQUIPMENT
Ok, please pay close attention here. EQUIPMENT DOES NOT EQUAL GREAT DJ. Although many DJ's have invested a lot of money into their sound systems, ultimately, it doesn't matter what equipment the DJ uses. Lets get real, does it really matter if the the DJ uses a lap top or a turn table? A CD player or an Ipod? Not really. The important thing is that everyone walks away talking about what a great time they had and what a great job the Deejay did, not what great equipment the DJ had.
A great Disc Jockey will use common sense to choose the equipment needed to accommodate the number of guests. A great DJ will also have all the right music necessary for your party, quinceañera, sweet 16, prom, wedding or whatever it is you hire the DJ for. DJs who toot their own horn about their great sound systems are obviously using it as a cover-up for what they really lack....DJ Entertainment Skills. Watch out for that, if their equipment has to do the talking for them, they're probably not that good.
